Sculpture Exhibition of Marble Fountains, Tables and Mirrors
Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld opened the first sculpture works exhibition at the Carpenters Workshop Gallery in Paris. He states that his designs are inspired by ancient times, Greek architecture and golden ratio.
Tables, fountains and mirrors are among the marble objects presented in the exhibition named Architectures, developed in collaboration with architect Aline Asmar d'Amman.
The monochrome collection also includes guards (circular side tables), lamps and consoles. Each piece is carved from carefully selected rare Arabescato fantastico or black nero marquina marble.
Arabescato fantastico is a vibrant white marble with dark gray veins that has not been mined for more than 30 years, while black nero marquina marble has brushstroke-like, milky white veins.
According to Lagerfeld, the designs were improvised to emphasize the beauty of the material.
